Description

The Contam Swab - Listeria is a swab containing a culture medium used for the detection of Listeria spp., including L. monocytogenes, on work areas or materials. The product consists of a sterile swab with selective culture media and a sterile tear pouch.

Each package contains:

  • 30 sealed pouches (swab + culture medium)
  • 1 instruction sheet

FEATURES:

  • Easy to use
  • Clear colour changes
  • No additional reagents
  • Results in 24-48 hours
  • 10 CFU/mL detection limit

TEST PROCEDURE:

1.    Take the sterile swab contained in the pouch.

2.    Moisten the tip of the swab by immersing it in a tube containing sterile culture medium.

3.    Press/rotate the tip of the swab against the wall of the tube to remove excess liquid.

4.    Swab the surface (10cm x 10cm) horizontally and vertically.

5.    Insert the swab in the tube containing the culture medium.

6.    Cap the tube and record date and the sampling point.

7.    Incubate at 37 ± 1°C for 24-48 hours.

RESULTS INTERPRETATION:

  • A color change of the medium from amber to black/dark brown indicates the presence of presumptive Listeria spp and Listeria monocytogenes in the sample (See figure 1 for example pictures).
  • A color change after 24 h incubation should be recorded as a positive result.
  • If there is no color change after 24 h, incubate for a further 24 h at 37°C.
  • Record the result as negative, absence of Listeria spp, if there is no color change after incubation for a total of 48 h.

STORAGE:

Store at 10-25°C away from light. Do not use the product beyond its expiry date on the label or if product shows any evidence of contamination or any sign of deterioration.
